METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR USER CENTRIC PRIVATE DATA MANAGEMENT

A method and a device for managing personal data centering on a user are provided to share user information such as EC(Electronic Commerce) data, and policies and preferences set by the user in a home network environment. A security module(102,104) receives user data through a device and encrypts the user data with a corresponding encryption key when the encryption keys corresponding to respective devices are included. And, the security module stores the encrypted user data in the predetermined device accessible by the devices so that the user can manage the user data to control distribution of the user data. The predetermined device includes a database for storing the encrypted user data. The predetermined device is a central device including a gateway(114) for the local network. The security module accesses the encrypted user data stored in the central device and decrypts the encrypted user data by using the encryption key.
