PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air-cooled engine without gathering mud and muddy water in respective cases such as a cover case. SOLUTION: A recoil handle seating part 6 is arranged in an upper part of a recoil case 4. A recoil handle 7 is seated on the recoil handle seating part 6. A cover upper opening 5b is formed in an upper part of the cover case 5. When arranging the recoil handle 7 seated on the recoil handle seating part 6 above the cover upper opening 5b, a cover swelling part 5c is arranged in an upper part of the cover case 5 immediately behind the recoil handle 7 by setting the horizontal direction orthogonal to the lateral horizontal direction as the longitudinal direction, and setting its optional one as the rear.
