The sensor has an electrode arrangement (12) with a set of electrode sections (13) that extend oblong to a main extension direction. A blowing unit has a blowing opening for directing local flow of fluid (20) in such a manner that the local flow of the fluid for each of the electrode sections is provided parallel to the main extension direction. The electrode sections and their main extension directions are radially arranged about a center point. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting a particle e.g. sooty particle, in a fluid in a combustion process of a motor vehicle engine.
