It is provided a method for adjusting the reel-to-bedknife gap of a reel cutting unit (10), comprising the steps of energizing a linear actuator (30, 32) between the reel (12) and the bedknife (14) in a direction to decrease the gap between the reel (12) and the bedknife (14) and detecting if there is contact between the reel (12) and the bedknife (14); if contact is detected, reversing and energizing the linear actuator (30, 32) in a direction to increase the gap between the reel (12) and the bedknife (14) and detecting if there is contact between the reel (12) and the bedknife (14); and selecting a location at which contact is no longer detected as a zero-gap position, and energizing the linear actuator (30, 32) to increase the gap between the reel (12) and the bedknife (14) to a pre-defined final gap measured from the zero-gap position. |
