The protection method uses controlled conduction of other bridge paths in each current converter bridge circuit (17,34) of the current regulator, for limiting the damage resulting from incorrect discharge of the intermediate DC circuit capacitance (C2) through a first bridge path (18,35). An Independent claim for an electrical protection device is also included.
