A device for cooling exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine comprises a plurality of flow ducts which are connected to an exhaust gas recirculation system of the internal combustion engine, a heat exchanger for a coolant to flow around the flow ducts in order to dissipate the exhaust gas heat, and an insert 7, 7 ' which is arranged within at least one of the flow ducts. The insert 7, 7 ' is in thermal contact with the flow duct such that the exhaust gas flows at least partially around the insert. The insert 7, 7 ' has profiled fins 8, 8 ', with profiles 9, 9 ' which are successive in the flow direction of the exhaust gas being arranged so as to be laterally offset relative to one another.
