<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive outboard motor having a simple configuration capable of reducing the axial length of a planetary gear unit. <P>SOLUTION: In the outboard motor which driveably connects a planetary gear unit 70 to an engine 60 with its crank shaft 59 placed in the longitudinal direction, transmits an output of the engine 60 to a drive shaft 53a via the planetary gear unit 70, and transmits a rotational force transmitted to the drive shaft 53a to a propeller shaft 53c, the planetary gear unit 70 includes a unit housing 71 connected to a lower part of the engine 60, a ring gear 72 fixed to the inner side of the unit housing 71, a planetary gear 73 engaged with the ring gear 72, a sun gear 74 arranged coaxial with the crank shaft 59 and engaged with the planetary gear 73, and a carrier 75 integrally rotated with the drive shaft 59 to rotatably support the planetary gear 73. A lower portion of the crank shaft 59 is spline-engaged with an upper portion of a gear shaft 74a of the sun gear 74, and a pin 76 for a sun gear bearing of the carrier 75 is inserted in a lower portion of the gear shaft of the sun gear 74 in the axial direction of the sun gear. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
