An ultrasonograph for accurately measuring the IMT value by an ultrasonic wave. The ultrasonograph comprises a transmitting section (1) for applying an ultrasonic pulse, a receiving section (2) for receiving ultrasonic echo signals reflected from the inside of the subject and converting them into an electric signal, an amplitude information processing section (5) for processing the amplitude information on the ultrasonic echo signals, a phase information processing section (6) for processing the phase information on the ultrasonic echo signals, a boundary position detecting section (7) for determining the distribution of the boundary position of the blood stream and the tunica intima and the boundary position of the tunica media and the tunica adventitia on the basis of at least one processing result sent out of the amplitude information processing section and at least one processing result sent out of the phase information processing section, and an IMT value computing section (9) for computing the IMT value of a blood vessel from the boundary position of the blood stream and the tunica intima and the boundary position of the tunica media and the tunica adventitia.
