The device has a condenser with step-up transformer and a switching component with step-down controller which remains switched on and the device is equipped with a measuring circuit. The voltage of the condenser is measured and control circuit which controls the switch component of the step-down controller and power conversion unit. The voltage of the condenser is measured by test circuit which drops under a certain value. The switching component of the step-down controller is controlled in a manner that the output rating has certain value to the high-pressure discharge lamp.
