PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving picture reproducing apparatus in which moving picture data recorded on a recording medium can be divided into chapters by a simple operation. SOLUTION: Moving picture data divided into chapters are read out from a recording medium and a moving picture is reproduced. During the reproduction of that moving picture, moving picture data within a predetermined time range before and after a current spot is searched in response to an input of search, and such a spot as the image information constituting that moving picture data vary most are detected.
