<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prophylactic/therapeutic agent exhibiting prophylactic or symptom ameliorating effects on periodontal diseases, to provide an oral composition for prophylaxis/therapy of the periodontal diseases and to provide a food or a food material for prophylaxis/therapy of the periodontal diseases. <P>SOLUTION: It is found that destruction of alveolar bones by an LPS (lipopolysaccharide), which is a causative substance of the periodontal diseases, can be inhibited and prophylaxis of onset of the periodontal diseases can be carried out by applying β-cryptoxanthin to a mouse alveolar bone organ culturing system and a model mouse of the periodontal diseases using a system for simply and rapidly evaluating the onset of the periodontal diseases with an established mouse. Thereby, the prophylactic/therapeutic agent for the periodontal diseases comprising the β-cryptoxanthin or a composition comprising the β-cryptoxanthin as an active ingredient, the oral composition for prophylaxis/therapy of the periodontal diseases comprising the β-cryptoxanthin as the active ingredient and the food or food material for prophylaxis/therapy of the periodontal diseases comprising the β-cryptoxanthin as the active ingredient are obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
