<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting apparatus in which emergency illuminating time of light source is designed to be longer than usual by a secondary battery even if monitoring/controlling operations are effected as a single unit by a control device. <P>SOLUTION: A lighting apparatus 2 comprises an iluminating circuit section 3 that includes a lamp 31, a secondary battery 32, a power supply circuit 38 for converting alternating current power from a commercial power supply AC to direct current power, a charging circuit 33 for receiving power supply from the power supply circuit 38 to charge the secondary battery 32 from the power supply circuit 38, a drive circuit 35 for lighting the lamp 31 by a power of the secondary battery 32 during the outage of the commercial power supply AC, an illumination detecting portion 302 of the lamp, and a voltage detecting portion 303 of the secondary battery 32, and illuminates the lamp 31 only by the power of the secondary battery 32 according to checking command, and checks the lamp 31, the secondary battery 32 based on the detection results; and a communication portion 4 for transferring the check command form a control device 1, and transmitting check results of the illuminating circuit section 3 to the control device 1.
