PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine ignition timing even on a retard side with respect to a compression top dead center of a piston with a relatively simple construction. SOLUTION: In an engine ignition timing determining method of detecting vibration of an engine 1, comparing a detected vibration signal Va with a predetermined threshold signal Vt, generating a timing signal Vc having a value shifting to ignition timing T and determining the ignition timing based on the generated timing signal Vc, the threshold signal Vt is varied based on a crank angle of the engine 1.
