PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact crystal oscillator for surface mounting remaining integrity of an IC chip, and securing sealing property and electric connection. SOLUTION: The crystal oscillator for surface mounting permits an IC chip 2 to be fixedly mounted on an inner bottom surface of a recessed container body 1, and includes a crystal piece 3 disposed above the IC chip 2 and a recessed insulating cover 4 joined with an opening end surface of the container body 1. The crystal oscillator further includes: a first annular metal film 12a provided at an opening end surface of the container body 1; a first crystal connection terminal 13a electrically independent from the metal film 12a; a second annular metal film 12b provided on the opening end surface of the insulating cover 4 and a second crystal connection terminal 13b electrically independent from the metal film 12b; and a crystal holding terminal 6 provided on an inner bottom surface of the insulating cover 4 and electrically connected with the second crystal connection terminal 12b, to which an extended outer periphery of a lead electrode 9 of the crystal piece 3 is fixed. The first annular metal film 12a and the second annular metal film 12b, and the first crystal connection terminal 13a and the second crystal connection terminal 13b are joined with each other through an eutectic alloy 15.
