PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backwashing method and apparatus of filtration membrane which facilitate initial peeling of fouling by rapidly obtaining an initial pressure effective for backwashing, and allows uniform peeling after the initial peeling, and permits easy supplying of the backwashing water of the flow rate necessary for the backwashing. SOLUTION: The backwashing apparatus is equipped with: a filtration membrane unit 21; a backwashing water conduction line 24 which performes a backwashing process of a filtration membrane by conducting the backwashing water from a backwashing water tank 22 through the filtration membrane unit 21 via a backwashing inlet valve 25 by a backwashing pump 23; a reflux line 26 branched from between the backwashing pump 23 and the backwashing water inlet valve 25 and refluxes the backwashing water to the backwashing water tank 22, and a stop valve 27 and a throttling means (for example, orifice 28) disposed in the reflux line 26. In at least the fore stage to perform the backwashing process after the filtration process, the backwashing pump 23 is operated in the open state of the stop valve 27 of the reflux line to maintain the water pressure in the inlet section of the backwashing water inlet valve 25 in the backwashing water conduction line 24 to a prescribed pressure effective for backwashing and thereafter the backwashing process is performed by opening the backwashing inlet valve 25.
