The method involves marking blocks in a storage unit and monitoring the blocks that are marked as suspect blocks (4), where the blocks that are classified as temporarily fault are marked as suspect blocks. An occurrence of error, which arises in the blocks, is considered during marking of the blocks. The error free blocks are marked as intact blocks (2) and faulted blocks are marked as defective blocks (6), where the defective blocks are not used.
