A process for making wood shavings

The process includes cutting shavings from a log in a shavings machine (5), screening (9) the shavings and collecting the screened shavings in a storage bunker (13). The shavings are delivered to a baler (18) in which the shavings are compressed into bales of a desired size and bagged. Shavings delivered to a collecting chamber of the baler (18) are pushed by a ram through an outlet of the collecting chamber into a bale forming compartment to form each bale. Shear blades on the ram and at a periphery of the outlet cooperate as the ram moves through the outlet to facilitate free movement of the ram through the outlet.
