Provided are a display device and its drive method capable of suppressing lowering of a contrast caused by unnecessary light emission in a pixel circuit and degradation of an electro-optical element and freely setting a period for compensating a drive transistor threshold value so as to perform more accurate compensation, thereby realizing a high-quality display. On a first path connecting a power supply wire (Vp) and a common cathode (Vcom), a drive TFT (21) for deciding the current to flow in the first path by a display signal is connected in series to an organic EL element (EL). Switch TFT (25, 26) of different control types are arranged on a second path connecting a point between the drive TFT (21) and the organic EL element (EL) to a third power supply line formed by a data line (Sj).
