PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viewing angle controlled display device which can make the range of a viewing angle variable, and is suited for reduction in thickness and weight. SOLUTION: A compensation panel 12A has a structure sticking two sheets of polymer films 17Aa, 17Ab together, and the polymer films 17Aa, 17Ab have birefringence properties. The birefringent directions 18Aa, 18Ab of the polymer films 17Aa, 17Ab are parallel or perpendicular to the liquid crystal alignment direction 14A. Similarly, a compensation panel 12B has a structure sticking two sheets of polymer films 17Ba, 17Bb together, and the polymer films 17Ba, 17Bb have birefringence properties. The birefringent directions 18Ba, 18Bb of the polymer films 17Ba, 17Bb are parallel or perpendicular to the liquid crystal alignment direction 14B. By constituting the compensation panel 12A not of glass substrates but of the polymer films 17Aa and 17Ab, the display device 10 can be reduced in thickness and weight. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
