A controlling method of a DC-DC converter for charging a battery is provided to maintain the voltage output constantly through the DC-DC converter by performing constant voltage control or constant current control. A controlling method of a DC-DC converter for charging a battery includes the steps of: applying a battery voltage signal to the DC-DC converter(S10); detecting a pulse current inputted through a current sensor(S20); generating an output current signal from a signal converting unit by using the detected input pulse current(S30); receiving the output current signal and the input pulse current from a PWM controlling unit(S40); performing constant current control in case of over-current and performing constant voltage control in case of non over-current(S70,S80); generating an alarm signal in case of surge current and generating a normal signal in case of non surge current(S90,S100); outputting a control signal according to the state of the output current signal and the input pulse current through the PWM controlling unit(S110); and receiving the control signal output from the PWM controlling unit in a DC-DC power unit, and stably maintaining an output voltage(S120).
