PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent life deterioration and poor light emission generated by retention of electric charges in capacity type display elements. SOLUTION: The capacity type display elements are arranged like a matrix in a plurality of intersection parts where a plurality of scanning electrodes intersect the plurality of data electrodes. A scanning side driving circuit 19 supplies scanning voltage to the plurality of scanning electrodes and a data side driving circuit 21 supplies data voltage to the plurality of data electrodes. A discharge part 1 selects all or a part of the plurality of scanning electrodes within a period in which scanning voltage is not supplied after the scanning side driving circuit supplies the scanning voltage to the plurality of scanning electrodes and simultaneously discharges the electric charges retained in all the capacity type display elements corresponding to the selected scanning electrodes.
