<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect a face area using a data memory for pattern matching used in an existing digital camera or the like. <P>SOLUTION: This face area extraction method for an imaging device for extracting an area of an image of a person existing in an picked-up image sequentially output continuously from a solid imaging element, by pattern matching processing with a face pattern, extracts a face area candidate 30 by the pattern matching processing of a contracted image (step S2)for matching of a contracted picked-up image, with the face pattern, cuts out a partial area including an existence range of the face area candidate 30, from the picked-up image (step S5) followed to the picked-up image hereinbefore, and carries out the pattern matching processing (step S8), using the image (step S7) in the partial area, to extract the face area 34. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
