PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid developing apparatus of low running cost, wherein the developer remaining on a developing roller after developing is stably removed, then, a defective image due to the residual developer is prevented, and also, regarding the removal of the residual developer, the residual developer is removed with high efficiency without damaging the reusability of the developer, and waste loss of the developer is reduced, and image of high image quality can be formed stably. SOLUTION: The liquid developing apparatus 10 includes a developing roller 12 that supplies the developer 18 to a photoreceptor drum 51; and a cleaning means for cleaning the residual toner on the developing roller 12. The cleaning means 30 includes an elliptical sweep roller 32, that rotates in a direction opposite to those of the developing roller 12 and the cleaning blade 33, etc., and regarding the sweep roller 32, only the roller surface at the major axis end comes in contact with the developing roller 12.
