PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing state display device for achieve focus by easy, accurate manual focusing without providing the function of calculating a focus evaluation value. SOLUTION: The focusing state display device includes: an imaging section 2; a focus evaluation value computing section 4 that calculates an evaluation value based upon the image signal output from the imaging section 2, the focus evaluation value being used to evaluate the current degree of focus of a subject image; a peak detecting section 6 detecting that the focus evaluation value exceeds a peak value during its change, with reference to the evaluation value output from the focus evaluation value computing section 4; a focus meter forming section 8 forming a focus meter image that visually expresses the focus evaluation value, based on the focus evaluation value output from the focus evaluation value computing section 4; a display section 10 that outputs a composite image obtained on a monitor 12 as a result of image composition.
