PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article storage device for a vending machine that refuses articles A in a vertical posture and admits only articles A in a horizontal posture into an article storage part 26. SOLUTION: An article guide 36 and an auxiliary guide 42 positioned upstream with respect to a loading direction so as to face an upper regulation portion 38 of the article guide 36 are disposed for independent pivotal movements with respect to the loading direction. A rear portion of an article A in a vertical posture presses up the upper regulation portion 38 of the article guide 36 via the auxiliary guide 42 to move a lower regulation portion 39 of the article guide 36 toward an end 31a of an inlet guide 31. The auxiliary guide 42, the lower regulation portion 39 of the article guide 36, and the end 31a of the inlet guide 31 hold the article A in the vertical posture to regulate admittance into the article storage part 26. Even when articles A in a horizontal posture are guided in succession by the inlet guide 31, each article A meets the article guide 36 and auxiliary guide 42 independently, and the article guide 36 and auxiliary guide 42, which do not interlock, admit each article A into the article storage part 26.
