A shaped laminate is made by disposing over a mould a fibrous sheet and a plastics sheet, with an interposed coating or layer of adhesive, and, in one operation, uniting the sheets by pressure or suction directed to forcing the sheets against the mould. The plastics sheet is preferably PVC, the fibrous sheet preferably a knitted, woven or open-mesh fabric, and the adhesive a vinyl chloride/ acetate copolymer solution in methyl ethyl ketone or a pre-plastisol. In operation the assembly may be clamped at its edges in a clamping ring, heated from above by IR, shaped by suction applied within the mould and allowed to cool, the edges being trimmed off and these of plastics material being reusable. Endless web assemblies may be treated by being moved in steps over the mould. |
