A water-based offset lithographic printing ink comprising water; a macromolecular binder which: (i) is optionally present and is of the type which is water-soluble, regardless of the pH of the water phase, (i i) is present and is of the type which is water-soluble only at a pre-determined pH value, or (iii) is optionally present and is an aqueous emulsion; a pigment; and a re-wetting agent. A non ionic surfactant may also be present in the ink.
