PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of assembling a cage into an outer ring while securing the strength and durability of a joint. SOLUTION: The fixed type constant velocity universal joint comprises the outer ring 10 having a plurality of track grooves 14 formed in an inner spherical face 12, an inner ring 20 having a plurality of track grooves 24 formed in an outer spherical face 22 in pair with the track grooves 14 of the outer ring 10, a plurality of balls 30 laid between both track grooves of the outer ring 10 and the inner ring 20 for transmitting torque, and the cage 40 laid between the inner spherical face 12 of the outer ring 10 and the outer spherical face 22 of the inner ring 20 for holding the balls 30. The outer spherical face center and the inner spherical face center of the cage 40 are offset on the opposite sides an equal distance from the center of the joint to the axial direction. On the vertical cross section of the cage 40, the outer ring 10 is thick at the side of the opening end, and the track grooves 14 of the outer ring 10 are tapered with their diameter enlarged toward the opening end and the track grooves 24 of the inner ring 20 are tapered with their diameter enlarged toward the counter opening end. In opposition to an in-low portion 11 on the inner spherical face opening side of the outer ring 10, a slit recessed portion 13 is provided along the axial direction of the outer ring 10 while avoiding the interference with the track grooves 14 of the outer ring 10.
