PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering control device for a vehicle capable of securing remaining power of a steering actuator in a high steering load and enabling vehicle travelling in a direction intended by a driver by instantaneously outputting large steering torque when the driver has the steering intention. SOLUTION: This steering control device for the vehicle is furnished with a steering motor 6 mechanically separated from a steering wheel, provided on a steering mechanism 8 to steer left and right front wheels 9, 9 and to give the steering torque to the left and right front wheels 9, 9, a steering controller 12 to drive the steering motor 6 in accordance with a steering command angle, a steering command angle reduction compensating means to compensate reduction of a steering command angle so as to reduce the steering torque when a steering motor real electric current I becomes higher than a first threshold value, a steering intention determining means to determine existence of the steering intention of the driver and a steering command angle increase compensating means so as to increase the steering torque when it is judged that the driver has the steering intention after reduction of the steering command angle is compensated.
