METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING DEFECTS OF THE RETINA USING OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE INTERACTION WITH A PATIENT

There is provided a method for determining defects of the retina of the eye by interaction between a patient and an examiner, comprising: projecting an image into the eye of the patient with an adaptive optical System to compensate distortions of the image due to aberrations of the eye and thus defining a first set of aberration data which correspond to the objective aberrations of the eye; determining the presence of distortions of the image as perceived by the patient by interaction of the patient with the examiner; modifying the optical characteristics of said adaptive optical System and obtaining a modified image of the image in the eye of the patient, in an attempt to correct for the distortions of the image as perceived by the patient in a subjective assessment thus defining a second set of adaptive data; comparing the first set of aberration data and the second set of adaptive data and determining the regions of the retina related to these sets of data in which these sets of data are different.
