PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing device in which the identification of the content of a thumbnail image does not become difficult depending on the kind of data or the like, and performs an index printing in which the content of the thumbnail image is easily recognized. SOLUTION: This printing device 1 adjusts and sets the output dimension of the thumbnail image 33 in response to the characteristics of a printing objective file, and index-prints and outputs the thumbnail image 33. For example, by changing the dimension of the thumbnail image 33 by the format of the printing object file, the brightness, and dimensional characteristic information such as a data size, the result of the index printing of the thumbnail image 33 is made easier to see.
