PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a saturation charge output ratio of a photoelectric conversion element constant over the range from high resolution to low resolution. SOLUTION: In the photoelectric conversion element array, shapes of photoelectric conversion elements are changed in accordance with resolutions. Each of photoelectric conversion elements PD1a-PD1n corresponding to high resolution has a rectangular shape with a lateral dimension Xa, a longitudinal direction Ya, a spaceβand a pitchαwith a neighboring photoelectric conversion element and these photoelectric conversion elements are disposed and formed iteratively in a lateral direction. Each of m-th photoelectric conversion elements PDma-PDmn corresponding to relatively lower resolution than high resolution has (m) finger parts FG (disposed in parallel with one another) with the spaceβwith a neighboring photoelectric conversion element, the lateral dimension Xa and the longitudinal dimension Ya, a marginβwith the finger parts FG, (m-1) connecting parts RK for connecting the (m) finger parts FG at a charge reading direction side, and a pitch mα, and these photoelectric conversion elements are disposed and formed iteratively in the lateral direction.
