PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having high durability and capable of forming high-definition images. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an electrostatic latent image carrier; a means of charging the electrostatic latent image carrier; a writing means of forming an electrostatic latent image by photoirradiation; a developing means of developing the electrostatic latent image with a toner to form a visible image; a transfer means of transferring the visible image onto a recording medium; a fixing means of fixing the transferred image on the recording medium; and a discharge means of removing residual charges on the electrostatic latent image carrier with light. The electrostatic latent image carrier includes a support, and an intermediate layer and a photosensitive layer consisting of a charge generating layer and a charge transport layer on the support, wherein the intermediate layer includes rutile type titanium dioxide and the charge generating layer comprises an organic charge generating material.
