PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of performing a stable and accurate shaking correction by either a static original reading system or an original following photographic system, and also downsizing the device. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with a static original reading system for reading the image of an original placed on an original stand glass 61 by exposure/scanning by an optical system 63 and an original following photographic system for reading the image of the original to be conveyed on a glass 62 for slit exposure by making the optical system 63 static. A reference density sheet 78 for shading correction is installed on the original stand glass 61. A reference density board 79 is alternately arranged on the glass 61 and the glass 62, and the density of a reference density board 79 is read by an optical system 63, and a difference between those read image density is calculated. On the other hand, in the case of reading the original image by the original following photographic system, the reference density sheet 78 is read through the glass 61 by the optical system 63, and the image density difference is fed back when setting a shading correction value based on the read image density.
