<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell wherein desired permeability of water vapor can be secured and efficient gas humidifying treatment can be satisfactorily performed, with a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: A generating cell 12 is equipped with an electrode membrane / electrode structural body 22, and a first and second separators 24, 26 to hold the electrolyte membrane / electrode structural body 22 between them. The first separator 24 has an oxidizer gas passage 42, and an entrance side buffer region 44a and an exit side buffer region 44b are provided between the oxidizer gas passage 42, an oxidizer gas supply communicating hole 28a, and an oxidizer gas discharging and communicating hole 28.
