PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for reducing fitting errors of a nut and a screw shaft in installing a ball screw device without lowering the support rigidity of a movable carriage. SOLUTION: The body of this centering tool of the ball screw device including the screw shaft 2 having a spiral shaft raceway groove 3 on the outer peripheral surface, a nut 4 having a nut raceway groove opposite to the shaft raceway groove 3 on the inner peripheral surface, and a plurality of balls for engaging the shaft raceway groove 3 with the nut raceway groove 5 without pre-load is fitted to the screw shaft 2, the end of the nut 4 is pressed by the body to apply axial load between the nut 4 and the screw shaft 2, and axial clearance gap between the balls 8, the shaft raceway groove 3 and the nut raceway groove 5 is temporarily eliminated to install the ball screw device 1 on the movable carriage.
