Relying on crank angle affects progression of cylinder pressure (POCP) without water injection (WI) (1) and POCP with WI (2). From the time span of WI (3) cylinder pressure scarcely rises so that cylinder pressure peaks are avoided without WI. After the time span of WI, gas temperature during WI is comparatively lower without WI so that formation of nitrogen oxide is avoided.
