A die box used as a rotary carrier from which crude soap and detergent cake is pressed into shape is moulded within a frame 13 mounted upon a metal base-plate 11 carrying a circular member 15 having projection 16 for the die box bore and counterbore, pins 18, 19 and 20 for holes for attachment studs, pin 21 for a locating dowel, pins 22 and 23 for positioning the jacking screw inserts 24 and 25, and wooden blocks 26 to form the die insert openings. The mould is coated with wax, silicone or polyethylene release agent and, after gelling of a primary <SP>1</SP>/ 16 to # inch layer of liquid epoxy resin with polyamine, polysulphide or polyamide hardening agent consecutive laminations of resin impregnated plain or square weave roving or random mat glass fibre cut outs are applied followed by a terminal layer of resin, <SP>1</SP>/ 16 to # inch thick. After room temperature curing, inserts 56 of nylon, polyacetal or polyurethane having retaining grooves 57 are fixed and retained within the die box by plastics binder filled with powdered steel, iron or stainless steel. The inserts 57 are machined and subsequently broached to size by soap metal pressing dies. Alternatively, inserts may be moulded in situ accurately positioned about blocks upon base-plate 11.</p> |
