The structure of a latch installed in a tailgate or a trunk is provided to improve convenience and satisfaction by opening the tailgate or the trunk regardless of load applied to the tailgate or the upper part of the trunk. A latch includes a latch lever(10), a pawl lever(20), a release unit(30), and an engaged lever(40). The latch lever is turned, installed in a base plate(6) and locked or unlocked from a striker. The pawl lever is installed in the base plate, and locked or unlocked from the latch lever. A gear(34a) is formed in the release unit, and connected to an actuator(34) or a release lever(32) connected to a cable to turn the pawl lever. The engaged lever is installed in the track of turn of the pawl lever to unlock the latch lever from the pawl lever regardless of load applied to a tailgate or a trunk by turning the latch lever. The engaged lever has a fitting unit(42) combined with the pawl lever, and a curved part(44) extended from the fitting unit, protruded forward and contacted to the end of the latch lever unlocked from the pawl lever.
