A laboratory mixer has a moving adapter attached to a holder for a laboratory receptacle e.g. a tray sample holder. The moving adapter drive that sets the tray holder in motion following an essentially horizontal, translatory oscillation pattern. The mixer further has a sensor measuring a vector that is dependent upon the load of the holder adapter. The sensor measures the vector that is at the geometric normal to the plane the horizontal pattern.
