A milling or other machine tool comprises a first tool-or-work-support 10 having a guide, a second support 12 projecting beyond the first support and having a guide making an angle of less than 180 degrees with the first guide, a slide, table or knee 22 reciprocable along the first guide, means for effecting the reciprocation including a motion-transmitting member 42 reciprocable along the second guide, said member being in slidable engagement with the slide, and means for reciprocating the member along the second guide. The knee carries a compound slide 28, 40. The member 42 is advanced to raise the knee by rotating a feednut 62a by an electric or fluid-pressure motor 62. The nut engages a fixed screw 64 but, in a modification, the motor and nut are mounted in the column 10 and the screw is attached to the member 42. |
