PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner capable of freely changing easy cleaning and careful cleaning. SOLUTION: This vacuum cleaner has a dust sensor 7 capable of detecting dusts of a minimum diameter of roughly 10μm-100μm, a rotation speed selecting means (not shown) selecting a standard rotation speed of an electric blower 2, and a signal control means 25 controlling the rotation speed of the electric blower 2 according to the number of dusts detected by the dust sensor 7 per a first prescribed time; and has an operation mode A keeping the rotation speed of the electric blower 2 higher than the standard rotation speed, untill the number of detected dusts becomes the minimum number, an operation mode B returning it to the standard rotation speed when the number of detected dusts decreases to some extent, and a careful button (not shown) for changing over between the operation modes A and B. This vacuum cleaner can detect the small dusts such as dead mites, dungs of mites and unwanted naps of a carpet, prevent the dust sensor from detecting micro dusts such as airborne dusts not required to be detected, and respond to wide cleaning requirements by selecting the operation mode A or B.
