The device has a workpiece spindle unit (1) for the rotary drive of a workpiece (2), a workpiece support, an adjustable stone holder (4) on the carrier for holding a honing stone (5) radially aligned to the workpiece. The support is connected to an oscillation drive (6) for pivoting the stone holder about an oscillation axis perpendicular to the workpiece rotation axis. The oscillation drive consists of a computer-controlled direct drive whose driven shaft is coaxial with the oscillation axis. The pivot angle and the pivot angle bisector alignment can be controlled by the computer controller.
