Composition (A) for dyeing and/or brightening keratin fibers, especially human hair, contains 0.01-10, best 1-5, wt.% of a 1,2-dihydropyrimidinium derivative (I) and/or its enamine form, provided that (A) contains no reactive carbonyl compounds.
