A plasma display panel and a driving method thereof are provided to protect inner components of the plasma display panel, when the plasma display panel is overheated, by reducing a thermal stress on a switching element. A plasma display device includes a plasma display panel(100), an address electrode driver(300), a sustain electrode driver(500), a scan electrode driver(400), a temperature detector(600) and a controller(200). The temperature detector detects a temperature of the plasma display panel. When the detected temperature is higher than a reference temperature, the controller generates an ERC(Energy Recovery Control)-timing-controlled driving signal, which is generated when driving signals for the sustain and scan electrodes are generated. When the plasma display panel is overheated, the controller decreases an overall sustain pulse number corresponding to a load ratio of an input image signal.
