A method and an apparatus for providing a phone number update announcement service are provided to automatically update previously stored phone number information when a terminal receives a phone number update announcement message which indicates that the phone number of another terminal has been changed. An apparatus for providing a phone number update announcement service comprises a storage part(52), a message creation part(56), and a transceiving part(51). The storage part(52) stores the call history information of each subscriber terminal. The message creation part(56) creates a phone number update announcement message containing the previous phone number and new phone number of a subscriber terminal according to a phone number update announcement service request from the subscriber terminal. The transceiving part(51) transmits the phone number update announcement message to one or more called terminals related to call history information of the subscriber terminal. The phone number update announcement message contains a command code so that each called terminal can decode the command code and change a previously stored phone number, or previous phone number of the subscriber terminal, into the new phone number.
