PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection-type display device capable of displaying video of high definition, while the load on lens designing and size increase of the apparatus are suppressed. SOLUTION: The projection-type display device 15 includes a light source 10, a lighting optical system 20, a color wheel 30 and a display panel 50, and a projection lens 60 and a micromirror array MEMS element 70. The color wheel 30 modulates colors of luminous flux by changing a plurality of color filters with time. The micromirror array MEMS element 70 comprises a plurality of movable mirrors 71 arranged in a matrix form. The movable mirrors 71 are driven according to the color modulation of the color wheel 30.
