PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chopper device that enables to easily and inexpensively construct a protection circuit for preventing a fault in a semiconductor switching element and minimizing a harmful effect on other circuits. SOLUTION: The chopper device includes: a comparator 15, a timer circuit 32; an AND circuit 16 that is inputted with the outputs of the comparator 15 and the timer circuit 32; an amplification unit 18; the electromagnetic coil 20a of an auxiliary relay for turning on a first contactor; the contact 20b of the auxiliary relay for turning on the first contactor; the electromagnetic coil 21a of an auxiliary relay of turning on a second contactor 2a; and its contact 21b.
