<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing digital image which is capable of improving image sharpness without increasing image noise in areas which contain edges. <P>SOLUTION: This method for processing digital image which processes digital image data (ID) as input comprises process of detecting and enhancing the edges, uses a multi rate signal processing, multi resolution signal processing and/or multi scale signal processing with respect to the input data in order to achieve the multi rate, multi resolution and/or multi scale sharpness enhancement with respect to the input data. By a nonlinear edge-based sharpness enhancement method based on the multi rate signal processing, image noise can be prevented from being amplified and the method is effective for image sharpness improvement to which the multi rate image sharpness enhancement method is applied. Since the multi rate processing is performed, not only edges of large gradients but also edges with medium and small gradients can be effectively detected, so that the sharpness is further enhanced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
