PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method, capable of forming high-durability and high-definition images while preventing deterioration of potential of unexposed parts and increase of residual potential of exposed parts of a photoreceptor when repeatedly used, for forming the high-durability and high-definition images. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes at least an electrostatic latent image carrier, a charger charging the electrostatic latent image carrier, a writing means forming an electrostatic latent image by irradiation with light, a developer developing the electrostatic latent image with a toner to form a visible image, a transfer means transferring the visible image onto a recording medium, a fixer fixing the transferred image on the recording medium, and a discharger removing residual charges on the electrostatic latent image carrier with light. The electrostatic latent image carrier includes a support, and a photosensitive layer consisting of at least an intermediate layer, a charge generation layer and a charge transport layer on the support, wherein the intermediate layer includes at least zinc oxide and the charge generation layer includes an organic charge generation material. The writing means irradiates with light having a wavelength shorter than 410 nm, which is not absorbed in the zinc oxide included in the intermediate layer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
